About Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a regulated health profession that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal (bones, muscle and nerves) problems, that impact on the health of our nervous systems, that can be caused by wear and tear, poor posture, stress, accidents and sedentary lifestyles, manifesting as pain, stiffness, weakness or numbness and tingling, without the use of drugs. Chiropractic care may help to reduce these symptoms and offers advice on how to prevent the symptoms from reoccurring. McTimoney Chiropractic is a whole body method of adjusting, by using our hands to complete quick, precise, light force adjustments to free the nervous system from interference and enables the innate self healing of the body to be maximised.

There is considerble published evidence that Chiropractic helps a number of different musculoskeletal conditions. It is a non-surgical, drug free method of healthcare. Louise specialises in the McTimoney chiropractic method of treatment, which was developed by chiropractor John McTimoney over 50 years ago.
It is a gentle full body assessment and treatment for all ages. It can help with the following conditions:

  • Back and neck aches and pains
  • Headaches and migraine
  • Shoulder and elbow pain and adhesive capsulitis, sciatica and leg pain
  • Arthritic joints stiffness and pain
  • Ankle and foot pain

The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) has published recommendations for GPs and healthcare professionals to offer manual therapies including Chiropractic for early management of persistent non-specific low back pain, as part of a treatment plan.

Free Spine Checks

For anybody unsure of whether they would benefit from Chiropractic we offer a free assessment of your body to advise you on whether Chiropractic would be suitable for you.

First visit

The first visit to Stanley Chiropractic will include the taking of your full medical history and a physical assesment including your blood pressure, orthopaedic and neurological testing to determine why you are suffering with your symptoms.

Your chiropractor will clearly explain what they have found and discuss a suitable treatment plan with you. Once you are both happy that you can be treated, they will adjust you on your first visit. If your chiropractor has any concerns from the assessment regarding any other health issues, they may refer you back to your GP rather than treat you on your first appointment.

Following your treatment, your chiropractor will provide you with exercises for you to complete at home, to ensure your health improves as quickly as possible.

To enable the chiropractor to properly assess you, you will be asked to undress to your underwear or you can bring your own shorts with you, or we do provide cotton gowns. Please discuss with us if you feel you are unable to do either. Your first assessment will take 1 1/2 hours and subsequent appointments 45 minutes.
